CSGO skin platform

Intro

Gamdom is a licensed site where CSGO gamers can win skins playing on a variety of games. They wanted to redesign their website to make it more attractive inline with current gaming interfaces to engage with more users. Their users are CSGO gamers, so they needed a modern look and a gamified user journey.

I was hired by Thin Martian as lead UX/UI designer. My role included wireframing, prototyping and UI design.

Challenge

The main challenge was to redesign the whole site without throwing off long time/habitual users. The website had 40K unique visits and 3k new registered users per day on average. And the goal was to keep the existing users engaged and also engage and retain new users.

Solution

We did a one-day design sprint workshop to understand all the challenges lying ahead. We decided to stagger the launch of the new site, and test every key area with a selected group of long term users, to make sure they weren't thrown off by the changes.

CSGO players are team players, and they communicate a lot. I redesigned the wat the chat worked to make the communication more fluid. I also simplified some of the games to make them more dynamic and added gamification to the whole experience. I created a user dashboard where players could keep track of their performance on the leaderboards. They could also check their rewards, referrals, tips, chat engagement, etc. To generate a sense of community, users were encouraged to give feedback, referrals and help other users and win some compensation in exchange.

85% of the traffic was desktop, but we also made the site responsive to attract and engage with more users.

Results

The redesign was a success, and the seamless desktop/mobile experience augmented the mobile traffic of the website. Users were very happy with the changes and improvements. Gamdom got a lot of new users and very good reviews from specialised CSGO sites which praised the new design and overall new experience.

Shortly after this, they introduced new games on the platform to keep up with the number of users. And the result was so successful that they opened the platform in certain countries to crypto bets too.
